Alex the parrot 2009-01-22

写真はないけど、とても感動的だったのでメモしておきます。

AlexというAfrican Grey Parrotがいて、たくさんの人のことば(英語)をはなし、色や形や個数の概念を認識していたということです。一緒に30年近く働いた、Irene Pepperberg博士との、さいごの会話は、人間と動物がどのように深く交流できるか、ということを、よくみせてくれます。

The last time Pepperberg saw Alex was Thursday, she said. They went through their back-and-forth goodnight routine, which always varied slightly and in which she told him it was time to go in the cage.

She recalls the bird said: “You be good. I love you.”

She responded, “I love you, too.”

The bird said, “You’ll be in tomorrow,” and she responded, “Yes, I’ll be in tomorrow.”

オウムはなんで人間のことばをしゃべれるのか、ただモノマネをしてるのとは違うのか、が、ふと気になって調べてみたら、2007年のニュースとして、Alexの追悼メッセージがたくさん見つかりました。

Youtubeでは、ABCやCNNの当時のニュース映像がみられます。ABCの映像は、著名人が亡くなったときに流される追悼映像と同じ構成になっており、作り手の心意気を感じます。
